Mentally Physically…
I love to be active as much of my life exist around some activity, some form of fun that causes those sweat beads to pop. It can be anything from working out at the gym, surfing, hiking, or simply walking there is some activity going on. But as I have gotten older things seem to be shifting. It’s not my bones shifting as I push through another work out, paddle out to the next wave, or walk along the beach path. No, I am mentally physically shifting. See, it has become hard to eliminate the mental and only concentrate on the physical. I am starting to have a better understanding of how the mental plays hand and hand with my physical. I can’t speak for everyone except for me but my mental mindset sets the foundation for my physical. It’s a mental physical combo thing.
Growing up in sports the one mental exercise that stuck with me was visualization. Before the Friday Night Lights turned on, or before the wrestling mats were rolled out there was visualization. I would sit along with my teammates visualizing my role to the team and the part that I played. Going through play after play, move after move, reacting to the opponent’s offense, defense, special teams, trick plays, new moves I’m starting to see picking up trend. Whatever you can imagine you vision yourself in the situation bad and good working through the hurdles that lead to success. I knew this was important to do and the reason why I left it for game day, the moment right before the big game, the big match. As I’ve gotten older, I’ve realized visualization is starting to become more and more a part of my everyday living. Every day is game day, every day is the day of the big match.
Mental Physical…As I mentally prepare for the day, I know it can be the right or wrong foundation for my physical. As a previous sports athlete and now a life athlete I am understanding the importance of our mental mindset. We can have an amazing practice, the perfect business proposal and at the drop of a hat everything can change. We can go from standing tall with our shoulders back and head held high to our shoulders slumping as the weight of It comes crashing down. Our mental mindset if not managed right can go from uplifted to derailed taking us physically out of the Game out of Life. Leaving us scratching our heads wondering what happened. A little mental self-doubt, a little mental lack of faith, a little loss of hope, a little loss of love (Agape). Now I was understanding the importance of visualization and not just on Game Day but every day. Helping us to prepare for anything that comes our way and also mentally prepared for any surprises that may come our way. Those trick plays. Preparing us to not deal with the battles but how to build ourselves up so when those hurdles come, we aren’t moved, solid like a rock. Helping us build our mental strength that helps us to physically complete what was already seen in thought. Mentally Physically prepared…
We know hurdles come into our lives as no one person or thing is exempt from hurdles, from the test of life. Don’t most products that hit the markets go through a stress test before being released in all its glory for us to enjoy? Some have seen the hurdles. Some know the hurdles are coming. But some aren’t preparing for the battle but preparing for victory. Already physically working in victory and being mentally thankful in victory. Setting expectations for the victory that was already won. Mentally Physically prepared…
