Consistency...
I can still hear my dad's voice at this very moment, "Well son you have to be consistent that is what the coaches are looking for". There I go with a very subtle eye roll, and when I mean subtle very very subtle or I would get the Dad stare. You know that stare that all dads have when they do it you think Jesus is coming back in that very moment. I am thinking to myself well at least my dad is being consistent in telling me to be consistent, but what I didn't know at that time was my dad was giving me a life lesson. He was just using it in a way that I could relate, and at times it would resonate with me when I got out of my feelings. What I didn't understand at that time was during my athletic career I needed to be consistent in what I did. I couldn't go all out one play and the next play take my foot off the gas a little bit, because that inconsistency would translate onto the game field. That inconsistency could lead to me giving up the game winning drive causing my team the game. That inconsistency was letting my coaches know that I have the abilities to perform at the level you want me to perform at but I will show them maybe this play or maybe the next play. Thinking back now how selfish was that of me to have a mindset like that. Making my coaches wonder which Lorenzo is going to show up today?
