Listen to Learn!!!!!

One of the best lessons that I have learned in life is to listen to learn.  I will say it wasn't an easy skill for me to learn and I am no master at it.  There are still moments now that I catch myself and have to be reminded to just listen to learn.  I wish I would have taken this skill more seriously in my early years, but oh well you can't change the past.  But if I could go back in time I wouldn't have been grounded so much, but oh well the past is the past.  

The moments I really learned that this skill was very important was during those conversations with my parents when I thought I was grown.  I am in my 20's and starting to enter into adulthood and thought I had it all together and knew how things worked, but for some reason I would hit a roadblock or have a setback and I would run to my parents for advice.  While I am trying to have a conversation with them we end up going back and forth.  Then, one day my parents looked at me and said you need to listen to learn and not listen to respond.  They went on to explain that listening to learn and not responding allows you to understand the conversation and what you need to take from it.  Once I understood that and put it into practice I realized that during so many conversations I missed so much vital information and learning moments.  So, during a conversation check your ego and just listen to learn and you might be surprised how much more of the conversation you actually hear.
